About
Hi and welcome to Elevar Therapy. I am Dr. Steffany Torres, a bilingual (English/Spanish) clinical psychologist based in California. I specialize in helping individuals overcome anxiety, loss, and trauma. My work empowers individuals to overcome emotional barriers that are impacting their ability to create a meaningful and fulfilling life, both personally and professionally.
Outside of my private practice, I serve as a clinical psychologist at a Federally Qualified Health Center, offering behavioral health treatment to low-income and underserved communities in English and Spanish.
Beyond direct clinical care, I also provide supervision to doctoral practicum students and psychological assistants, training them to deliver culturally responsive psychotherapy in both English and Spanish. I also maintain an e-learning platform, Elevar Project, for mental health providers who are seeking to improve their provision of therapy in Spanish. These roles reflect my dedication to mentorship, clinical rigor, and expanding access to high-quality mental health care across linguistic and cultural lines.
Training and Experience
Graduate School: I received my PhD in 2018 in clinical psychology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. I received specialized training in research and treatment of trauma and intimate partner violence.
Internship: I completed a pre-doctoral internship at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System, where I received training in evidence-based treatments for mood disorders (depression and anxiety), PTSD, women’s mental health, and substance use.
Post-doctoral Fellowship: After earning my PhD, I completed an additional year of training at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System where I learned evidence-based treatments for PTSD, substance use disorders (SUD), insomnia, and mood disorders (anxiety and depression). I obtained experience at various levels of care, including the outpatient PTSD clinic, the PTSD Intensive Outpatient Clinic, and the Men’s Residential Trauma Recovery Program.
