Frequently Asked Questions

What are your fees?

My fees are consistent with other doctoral-level clinicians with advanced empirical training in the San Francisco Bay Area. I do hold a small number of reduced fee spots for people who are unable to afford the full fee. Please feel free to schedule a brief consultation to discuss what your individual fee may be.

Brief consultation: $0

Initial intake: $250

Ongoing individual sessions: $200

Do you accept insurance?

Although I do not work directly with insurance companies, I am an out-of-network (OON) provider. If you have a PPO, your insurance may cover a portion of the therapy fee. People who use their OON benefits pay the full session fee upfront and then submit a superbill to their insurance company for reimbursement.

For those who are unable to pay the full-fee upfront, but have OON benefits, I have contracted with Thrizer to reduce upfront costs. With Thrizer you pay your co-insurance (after deductible) instead of paying the full fee upfront.

For more information on OON benefits, checkout Demystifying Out-of-Network Benefits for Therapy.

How much does my insurance cover?

I can provide you with an estimate of what your insurance covers, but if you would like to get a detailed breakdown, I suggest you contact your insurance company directly and ask the following questions:

1) Do I have coverage for outpatient mental health therapy?

2) What is my out-of-network deductible?

3) How much of my out-of-network deductible has already been met?

4) What is my policy period?

5) What is my coinsurance?

6) What is my allowed amount (plan allowance)?

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes, I offer a free 15 minute consultation so that we can get to know each other and see if we may be a good fit. Please feel free to call 408-479-2489 or book online.

What can I expect in therapy?

After the brief consultation we will schedule a 60 minute intake appointment where I will ask you questions to get a better understanding of what you’ve been going through and your personal history. Towards the end I provide recommendations and we create a plan for your therapy. This intake appointment gives us an opportunity to get to know each other and create a structure for your follow-up therapy appointments.

In your follow-up therapy appointments, you will have the opportunity to share your experiences, receive support, and learn skills for achieving your treatment goals. This process is collaborative and I adapt sessions based on your needs as your treatment evolves.

How long does therapy last?

Individual sessions are 50 minutes. The number of sessions that you receive depends on your individual needs and goals. Some people seek therapy because they have specific goals that can be achieve in a few months. Other people seek therapy because they are looking for ongoing support. For those individuals therapy may last a few months to a few years.

How often will I have therapy?

Usually therapy starts on a weekly basis. As you progress in your treatment and begin to achieve your goals, you may choose to reduce your therapy to a biweekly basis.

Do you have a cancellation policy?

Yes, if you are unable to make it to your appointment, please give me a call 24hrs before your appointment time to cancel. All sessions that are not cancelled before 24hrs will be charged the full session fee. Please note that insurance does not cover late cancellations or missed appointments.

Do you have a late policy?

Yes, please give me a call ahead of time if you are going to be late to your appointment. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, the session will be canceled and charged the full session fee. Please be aware that insurance does not cover appointments that are canceled due to arriving late.
