Training and Experience

My clinical work is grounded in extensive training and years of experience supporting adults through trauma, loss, and complex life experiences.

Education

Undergraduate: I completed my bachelors in psychology in 2012 from the University of North Texas. Throughout my undergraduate training, I volunteered at a domestic violence and sexual assault clinic where I provided on-call advocacy and support to survivors of sexual assault and intimate partner violence at hospitals. I also worked as a mental health technician at a residential clinic for trauma and substance abuse.

Graduate School: I received my PhD in 2018 in clinical psychology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. I received specialized training in research and treatment of trauma, intimate partner violence, and general mental health (anxiety, depression, etc.).

Advanced Clinical Training

Internship: I completed a pre-doctoral internship at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System, where I received advanced training in evidence-based treatments for mood disorders (depression and anxiety), PTSD, women’s mental health, and substance use.

Post-doctoral Fellowship: After earning my PhD, I completed an additional year of training at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System where I learned evidence-based treatments for PTSD, substance use disorders (SUD), insomnia, and mood disorders (anxiety and depression). I obtained experience at various levels of care, including the outpatient PTSD clinic, the PTSD Intensive Outpatient Clinic, and the Men’s Residential Trauma Recovery Program.

Professional Experience

Outside of my private practice, I serve as a clinical psychologist at a Federally Qualified Health Center where I provide psychotherapy to low-income and underserved communities in English and Spanish.

Beyond direct clinical care, I also provide supervision to doctoral practicum students and psychological assistants, training them to deliver culturally responsive psychotherapy in both English and Spanish. I also maintain an e-learning platform, Elevar Project, for mental health providers who are seeking to improve their therapy in Spanish.
